Supporting Our Ministry
Food
The students love to eat! Would you or your church like to sponsor one of our Sunday night meals? This is a great way to give to the students and get to know them!
Donate
Your gift to support our ministry will empower students to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God during their college careers. For more information, email lutheran@umd.edu
More Ways to Support Our Ministry
Backpacks
Every summer we collect backpacks and school supplies for children in need in Langley Park. We fill the backpacks with the necessary school supplies that Langley Park/McCormick Elementary School has required. In 2019, we filled over 400 backpacks! Additional school supplies are sent to church ministries in Baltimore. Would you or your church like to collect supplies to help out? Email our office (Lutheran@umd.edu)
Joyful Noise
Every month, Joyful Noise travels to churches in the area to perform. Would your church like host them? It is a great opportunity to host UMD students, hear about the ministry, and enjoy their musical gifts. Email the office if interested (Lutheran@umd.edu)
Coats/Books
After hearing stories from Langley Park/McCormick Elementary School about the many children who regularly came to school unprepared for the cold weather, we began collecting warm coats, gloves and hats for the students. Do you or your church want to help collect coats? In the 2017-2018 season, we collected about 100 coats for the children!

As part of the CARing project, we maintain a library for the kids to use and take home books to read at home. Gently used or new books should be for 2nd through 6th graders.
Elizabeth Platz Endowment Fund (Platzfund)
Make a lasting donation to Lutheran Campus Ministry! Elizabeth Platz served as University of Maryland Chaplain for 47 years! Pr. Platz was ordained as the first female Lutheran Pastor in the Western Hemisphere at Maryland’s own Memorial Chapel. Upon retiring in June, 2012, the University of Maryland and the Directing Committee of Lutheran Campus Ministry at UMD bestowed upon her the honor of Chaplain Emerita (only the second chaplain at UMD to receive that honor). Her dedication and service to the campus community and the church has been an example to all.
